Snuggles

The other day, I was alone and started to think about Archer, of course, how much I miss him, and a memory hit me.

Archer LOVED to sleep, which is a lot like his mama. But he could sleep doing almost anything or anywhere EXCEPT his crib.

I remember how we had to keep him awake during his bottles; otherwise, he wouldn’t finish his food. He would fall asleep quickly in our arms for snuggles.

Archer would also start to fall asleep in his stander. He would play with the toys, see the lights on the tv, and then his head would slowly start to nod off. We would call out, “Archer!” His eyes would shoot open, and he would continue to play.

Archer played on the floor a lot. We would put a blanket down and different toys around him to play with and to keep his interest. Every so often, Theo or I would look away (yes, Archer was always kept safe). When we looked back, Archer was lying on his belly, fast asleep.

He would crack us up whenever he would randomly fall asleep.

When it was time for bed, we would hold him, snuggle, and rock him to bed. He would generally fall asleep pretty quickly. However, the moment he went back into his crib, he would be wide awake.

In the hospital, he never wanted to sleep in his crib, but he wanted to be sung to or held in the recliner to fall asleep.

While in the moment, it was hard to get him to sleep in his crib, and we would sometimes get frustrated, I look at this very differently now.

Archer just wanted to give Daddy and Mama the most snuggles he could because he knew they would have to last us a lifetime.
