After we finished the first activity and had a little lunch, we returned to the Pavillion for the second activity.
We were all able to pick out a rock and paint it in our loved one’s memories.
Theo and I wanted to create a rock representing as much of Archer as possible without being too overwhelming. We picked out a smaller, blank rock.
Then we picked out our colors. We picked Hunter Green, Tan, and Brown. For those of you who don’t know, these were the colors of Archer’s nursery.
- Hunter green – His crib, changing table, and dresser
- Tan – The walls and carpet color
- Brown – The different wood accents to make his room feel ‘woodsy.’
We wanted it to encompass his whole life, so we simply painted his name, added his birthdate and angelversary date, and then had an arrow that followed the curve of the rock.

Once we were done painting our rock, we were told they would all be placed in a labyrinth. I was not sure that I was ready to part with our rock…
The next day, we asked the camp’s leader if we could take it home with us. We were given the biggest ‘yes,’ and my heart jumped for joy.
The rock currently sits on our front porch but will be placed in our backyard garden, which is not yet completed.
Our garden is going to home all the flowers we received for Archer’s Celebration of Life. Pictures will be posted when this project is completed, either later this fall or early next spring.
