Archer absolutely LOVED bath time. You could tell from the day he was born that this was one of his “happy places.”
We gave him a bath every few days since he was born, and he loved it. If Archer had a rough day, we would start the bath water and bring him into the bathroom. Once we set him in his bath seat, he would get so happy.
We would splash his hands and feet in the water. We played with little bath toys that his Auntie Alie and Uncle Nate got him. And we would sing him his bathtime song:
Gotta wash the Archer, the Archer, the Archer
Gotta wash the Archer, so he’s clean
A big smile would come to his face. As we wrapped up bath time, I always held the towel and waited to receive him from daddy. We had many hooded animal towels, and seeing him grow into them was fun.
After bath time, we would take Archer into his room, set him on the changing table, and get him ready for bed. As daddy got him dressed, I would lotion his face and comb his hair.
He loved to get his hair brushed. As he got bigger, we had to find ways to distract him as we got him ready for bed. We handed him his little baby brush, and he would always stare at it and stick it in his mouth. This kept him busy enough to finish our routine with him.
After our bath routine, I would play with him on the floor, and he and daddy would snuggle after.
When we only had a few hours left with Archer, we wanted to give him one last bath. He didn’t need one, as we knew it wouldn’t be long. So why did we decide to give him a bath?
It was such a happy memory for us and one of his favorite things, and we wanted to have that one last time with him. We did the entire routine, except we didn’t play in the tub much. We put on some of our favorite pajamas. Brushed his hair. Then we snuggled him until he went to be with Jesus.
