Besides Theo, Archer was the one person who “got” me.
Archer smiled whenever I:
- Made silly faces at him
- Sang him made-up songs
- Danced until I was exhausted
Some of Archer’s favorites were when:
- I would “eat” his toes. He loved when I put his feet up by my mouth and made “am nam nam” sounds.
- He would smile when I held up his little legs to him, wiggle his legs, and ask him, “who’s skinny ankles are these?”
- He had the thickest thighs, chubby little feet, and these adorable ‘skinnier’ ankles.
- I would use our hospital room’s bathroom door or a pillow to play peek-a-boo.
- This kept him busy for long periods, especially when he just wanted to be held.
- We would take his little watermelon-shaped teether from the hospital, place it on his head, and sing “Watermelon Sugar Hat, Watermelon Sugar Hat” (to Harry Styles’s Watermelon Sugar).
Archer didn’t care how ‘weird’ I acted. He loved me for me. He understood that he would probably be embarrassed by me his entire life, but he loved it.
Deep down in my core, I feel he just “got” me. He may have been daddy’s best friend, but he was my little buddy.
Will my future children ‘get’ me the way he did? Will they be my little buddy or gal pal? I want this more than anything….
